The wastewater treatment system BIODISKS marked EN 12566-3 and tested by PIA consists of a primary and a secondary compartment all in a monoblock, allowing for installation without the need for a septic/imhoff tank and greatly simplifying this phase.
The biological degradation of the wastewater occurs entirely within the treatment system in an odorless and almost completely silent manner. The BIODISKS by dorabaltea is suitable for treating wastewater from a variety of situations, such as independent houses, occasional holiday homes, military bases, prisons, schools, hotels, restaurants, recreational clubs in rural areas, campsites, mobile homes or caravans, domestic users within service stations, and clinics, hospitals, and much more.

Micro Biodisc – wastewater treatment
The Biodischi treatment plant by dorabaltea® is an independent treatment device, characterized by a strong adaptability to hydraulic and organic load discontinuities, as the biological film adhering to the biodisks allows it to adapt to seasonal variations in buildings for users ranging from 1 to 350 equivalent inhabitants.
The treatment process of the pollutants contained in the wastewater takes place entirely within a closed monoblock tank, which is odorless and includes the entire management of the system, which equalizes the inflow of wastewater, ensuring exceptional and certified discharge quality CE EN 12566:3. The micro Biodisc dorabaltea® treatment system, in compliance with Italian legislation, allows treated waters to be discharged outside the sewer into surface water bodies or soil. The only moving parts are the biological disks, rotating between 1 and 2 revolutions per hour, requiring very low energy consumption from the motor (50 watts x 6 people) and its noise is practically nonexistent.
The Biodischi treatment is very compact and offers very high accessibility, is extremely easy to install, and can be integrated into all environmental contexts as it is completely buried. The Biodischi by dorabaltea is constructed from fiberglass, which is very lightweight yet particularly durable, minimizing the weight of micro treatment plants, allowing for easy management on site. It is easy and quick to install. Unlike treatment systems used for small users such as subsurface irrigation or phytodepuration, it occupies a very small area (for a house of 5 people, the footprint is only 2.5 m in diameter).

Main Tank Construction Material
The Biodischi treatment plant is completely protected by a walkable plastic cover that locks with the provided key.
Operating Principles
The low rotational speed of the biodisks allows the biological mass to have the natural alternations of aerobic and anaerobic periods, allowing the development of the bacteria best suited for the treatment of all pollutants contained in domestic and/or assimilated wastewater.
Primary settling tank and anaerobic pre-treatment
The system requires no biological tank as primary treatment upstream. The anaerobic pre-treatment of the Biodischi works through a zone that slows the outflow rate of the effluent, separating it from the heavy solids that settle at the bottom of the first chamber. At this point, the clarified effluent passes directly into the biological reactor zone with biodisks.
Aerobic treatment with biodisks
In the aerobic treatment sector with biodisks or biozone, consisting of two zones that make up the rotating disk, the semi-treated wastewater in the first zone arrives at a constant speed through a patented but very simple system, regulating fluctuations in hydraulic load and organic load, thus allowing the natural bacteria present in the biodisk support to have time for the biodegradation of the pollutants contained in the waters, ensuring a high quality of the treated effluent at the exit before being reintroduced into the environment.
The microorganisms naturally present in the effluent anchor themselves to the disks partially immersed in the waters, forming a biologically active layer. Such impurities are a perfect nutrient for the bacteria, which digest them, rendering them harmless and allowing them to be discharged into the receiving body with the treated waters.
With this oxygen-rich environment, the microorganisms grow at a very high rate. Oxygenation occurs through the rotation of the disks, which are immersed for about half their diameter; the biological mass adhering to the disks is subsequently immersed in the clarified effluent and then again exposed to atmospheric oxygen, thus creating optimal conditions for optimal treatment. The thin layer of bacterial mass adhering to the disks that develops in the presence of oxygen provides a high purification capacity for all organic substances contained in the wastewater.
Oxygen naturally penetrates deep into the biomass colonies through a process of mixing and diffusion.
The final settler
The further purified effluent then passes to the final settler, allowing light materials still suspended to separate from the waters that exit even more clarified.
Result on the quality of treated water
The purification power of the micro Biodischi treatment plant by dorabaltea has a very low consumption of 1.3kW/d for the model for 5 inhabitants. The vertical arrangement of the disks decreases the resistance to rotation, which are driven by a reliable and efficient electric motor that always operates outside the water.
The greatest benefit for the environment and the consumer that the micro Biodischi treatment plant brings is its remarkable consistency of purification efficiency. The system requires very little maintenance after commissioning. The emptying of the primary sector can be done with a minimum frequency of 12 months but can also be performed with much longer periods depending on usage, thanks to the capacity of the sludge tank.
20-year warranty.
Regulatory References
The plant is also compliant with R.Eu 305/11 “construction products regulation”
IMPORTANT
The European Regulation No. 305/11 on Construction Products has provided that this type of plants must also be tested according to the technical standard EN 12566-3 for both structural and functional parameters, and the related results must necessarily accompany the treatment plant and be made available to anyone who requests it from July 1, 2013, through appropriate documentation.
DoP “declaration of performance” and CE marking are the mandatory documents without which the system cannot be placed on the market, and to obtain such documentation, the product must be certified by a notified body at the European level and can no longer be “self-certified” by the manufacturer as indicated in the repealed Directive 89/106/EEC Construction Products (CPD) by the new regulation.
