Porto Istana - Olbia, 17 illegal discharges discovered: fines up to 60 thousand euros

The news is several months old, when the pollution alarm was raised in the coves of the Punzutu area, where agents of the Municipal Police, starting from a foul-smelling stream, verified the presence of fecal bacteria, Escherichia coli, far exceeding the limits set by regulations and established numerous illegal activities in violation of the environmental consolidated text.

The subsequent activity carried out by the Command was particularly detailed. Indeed, all the discharges from residential properties in a vast area located in Punzutu were mapped, and detailed inspections were conducted in all the aforementioned properties to verify the system of domestic wastewater discharges serving the individual homes. At the conclusion of this important work, it was confirmed that 17 properties were using domestic wastewater discharge systems without any authorization.

The most commonly used treatment system, it was found, consisted of Imhoff tanks with subsurface irrigation. 17 illegal activities related to the aforementioned situation were contested; each offender will have to pay a fine ranging from 6,000 to 60,000 euros for violating the provisions contained in the Environmental Consolidated Text D.Lgs 152/06.

The Environmental Consolidated Text is a national regulation and applies to the entire territory and has been in force since 2006. Is your home compliant with the wastewater treatment system? Are you sure that the old discharge systems have not become obsolete or no longer comply with the current reference regulations over the years?

The risk is to receive significant penalties as well as negatively impacting the surrounding environment.
