Wastewater Treatment in a Private Swiss Residence: A Success Story
Malvaglia, Serravalle (CH)

Preserving water quality, protecting natural resources, concentrating urbanization, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, are just some of the concrete measures adopted in line with the priority objectives of the Swiss environmental policy, whose regulations on wastewater treatment are very strict.

The construction of solid treatment infrastructures along with the prohibition or reduction of problematic substances has significantly improved water quality since the 1960s. On one hand, measures to reduce pollutants and their discharges, on the other hand, intensive construction of pipelines and treatment plants for wastewater (IDA) from households and artisanal and industrial enterprises.

And it is precisely in this context, in Switzerland, in the small village of Malvaglia, in the Val del Blenio at the foot of the San Gottardo massif in the heart of the Lepontine Alps, that Dorabaltea has carried out the intervention concerning the construction of a BIOWATER plant for the management of wastewater from a new single-family home resulting from the renovation of an agricultural/artisanal building adjacent to a pre-existing stone structure.

The “ecological mindset” and strong sensitivity to environmental issues of the client have guided the structural and plant choices of the house, including that related to the wastewater treatment system. In fact, the BIOWATER system complies with VSA regulations, operates without electricity, and the ease of transport makes it an ideal solution for installation in hard-to-reach places like the alpine mountains.

The complete absence of CO2 production, the use of 100% recyclable materials, and the high purification efficiency make BIOWATER the most eco-sustainable solution currently available on the market.

The plant, due to space constraints, has been installed beside the house near the windows, which was made possible by the total absence of electro-blowers, making the adopted solution completely silent. The complete burial also makes it fully integrated into the garden and visually non-intrusive.

BIOWATER is designed for the aerobic biological treatment of domestic wastewater and/or similar from homes, accommodation facilities, restaurants, and farms, free from oils and fats that have been pre-separated.

BIOWATER is the most eco-sustainable wastewater treatment plant, as the completely biological purification process operates by natural gravity without the need for electricity.

For Dorabaltea, it is essential to seek the best and most eco-sustainable plant solutions that allow us to return a resource to the environment rather than a waste. Our staff manages and oversees the design, construction, logistics, training, pre and post-sales assistance, and maintenance activities.
