The case of Sabi Sand Reserve - South Africa
Our client is a luxury safari tour operator with high-level accommodations worldwide. They are very famous in South Africa for their prestigious lodges.
This installation for wastewater treatment serves both the existing facility and the new one under construction. The new facility will be ultra-modern and luxurious, while the current one is a more colonial, classic lodge equipped with all comforts. Upon completion, the entire facility will host 154 people.
The discharge scheme provides that the wastewater from kitchens, laundries, and toilets be collected in septic tanks in each guest suite, downstream the wastewater is collected in a pumping system and sent to the final treatment plant.
The plant in question is a Multirock-180, installed above ground (this greatly simplified its installation). Specifically, it consists of two parallel treatment units Multirock-90. Upstream of the secondary plants, there are 2 splitter-boxes that naturally and without the aid of pumps divert the hydraulic flow to each of the Multirocks.
The wastewater pumped from the septic tanks of the suites flows into 2 additional septic tanks of 10 cubic meters each equipped with effluent filters.
To allow for above-ground installation, the 6 (Biowater F) Ecorock-5000 units have been reinforced with a custom-made metal frame, and the entire installation will be covered in the future with a roof to protect the plant from ultraviolet rays.
The treated wastewater is collected in an underground storage tank where it is disinfected with simple chlorine tablets and then pumped back to the lodge for lawn irrigation. The estimated water savings, recycling and reusing wastewater for irrigation, is approximately 10 million liters per year.
In a place where water is a limited resource but without which it would be impossible to consider a luxury accommodation, our treatment solution has been deemed the best on the market.

The installation was completed and commissioned in July 2018, allowing the tourist season to start with full satisfaction from everyone.
